Newest Classes For 2007
The Johnson County Community Emergency Response Team conducted two training classes in September and October. The classes were held at the West Van Lear Fire Department and at the Paintsville Housing Authority. A total of twenty-two students completed the twenty hour class.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.
The Johnson County CERT Program is sponsored by the Office of Paintsville/Johnson County Emergency Management. Emergency Management Director Gary McClure would like to thank instructors Buell Webb and George Roe, West Van Lear Fire Department, Red Bush Fire Department, Rockhouse Fire Department, Johnson County Health Department, Paintsville Housing Authority, Johnson County Amateur Radio Service and the students which participated in the classes.
Additional classes will be scheduled in the future. Anyone needing additional information may contact Paintsville/Johnson County Emergency Management at (606) 789-2260 or visit our web site at johnsonem.org.
